Mercury Marine New 2014 outboards

Mercury Marine New 2014 outboards

BoatTrial was present at the Mercury Marine 75th anniversary press conference held in Elkhart Lake. A beautiful place 30 minutes’ drive from Fond Du Lac (USA), where the Mercury factory is located. During the conference an impressive history of Mercury was introduced to the World press. Mercury Marine President John Pfeifer and his staff presented their plans for the future. Our crew was positively surprised about the various developments and new Mercury Marine products. Many releases were revealed: a new innovative MerCruiser 4.5L V6 250hp sterndrive unit; New gauges and joystick controls; Enertia ECO propellers; a New wireless motorguide, etc. More News and test reports will folow. The unveil of a new line-up of four stroke outboards was most eye-popping during the conference. The new Mercury outboards are built with the same architecture as the extraordinarily reliable and extremely popular Mercury 150 FourStroke. Our crew had the privilege to be the first to test the New 115hp engine, with different boats on lake Winnebago near Oskosh.

New line-up of four stroke outboards
Mercury Marine is proud to introduce its New lightweight four stroke outboards range available in  80, 100 and 115hp. These engines are offering the ultimate combination of power and thrust, fuel economy, smooth-quiet operation and lightweight. The New engines are the perfect choice for bass boats (typical fishing boats), deep-V hull, runabout and offshore boats. They even can be used to replace older lightweight 2 stroke engines.

Unmatched performance
You can recognize the new engine immediately by their engine cowl which looks slimmer  than previous models. The engine features a 2.1-litre, four-cylinder, eight-valve, single-overhead-cam design. According to Mercury these engines deliver more torque and horsepower than competing engines. Their weight is almost 10kg lighter than a similar four-stroke engine. Also a new hydro dynamically designed gear case decreases drag by 15 percent.  The new engine offers the following advantages: unmatched performance, reliability, easy control and good efficiency.

Easy maintenance
A lifetime maintenance-Free Valve Train, color-coded maintenance locators and an up-front freshwater valve flush system, even a maintenance label under the engine cowl and handy QR codes ensures easy maintenance. Nice to know: via a smartphone to a dedicated mobile site Mercury provides a series of “how to” maintenance videos, troubleshooting tips, a dealer locator and a hotline to Mercury Marine.

The new engines are featured with Mercury’s industry-leading anti-corrosion protection that includes Mercury’s exclusive XK360 low-copper alloy, use of stainless steel components and the MercFusion paint process.

Command Thrust
The New four stroke engines will also be delivered with a specially designed and second generation gear case. The gear case is called command trust (CT) and provides more power.
